Key dates to celebrate volunteering
Throughout the year there are various national and international events to mark in your diary, so you remember to celebrate the vital role volunteering plays in our communities. These events include National Volunteer Week, National Student Volunteer Week, International Volunteer Day, International Volunteer Managers Day and Giving Tuesday.
National Volunteer Week (NVW) is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteers. From Monday 17th to Sunday 23rd May 2021, NVW will celebrate the significant contribution of Australia’s almost six million volunteers. Each year these volunteers dedicate over 600 million hours to help others.
The theme for NVW 2021 is Recognise. Reconnect. Reimagine. It acknowledges that it is time to:
- Recognise, celebrate and thank volunteers for making our communities stronger, especially during times of need, crisis or isolation.
- Reconnect to what is important by giving our time to help others, our local community or a cause we value.
- Reimagine how we adapt our volunteering practices and programs to better support and engage volunteers and the organisations they help so that they can continue to do the necessary work that they do.
